Pipe Fitters Local Union 211 of Houston, TX was chartered in 1949. The local 211 is involved in the piping industry, particularly in piping fabrication, installation and servicing. They are in the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipefitting Industry of the United States and Canada.

The Pipe Fitters Local Union 211's welding apprentice school provides each apprentice with a highly rewarding career path in the piping industry with the promise of opening doors for each apprentice. Pipefitters offers premier welding training programs including five year apprentice programs and extensive journeymen training. Apprentices are paid while they train on the job, receive medical benefits and pension.

Huntington Ingalls Industries is America's largest military shipbuilding company. The Pascagoula shipyard has formed a partnership with Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College to provide free welding training. This welding course is called Pre-Hire Employment Welding Training.

Students who are eligible for the program work at their own pace and once certified go to work at Ingalls. After successful completion of the Pre-Hire Employment Welding Training workers can expect to earn $35,000 per year. To apply, you must be at least 18 years of age, pass a basic math and reading test, pass a drug screen, pass an agility test and have a GED or high school diploma. The program is funded by Ingalls Shipbuilding, Mississippi Development Authority and the Mississippi Community College Board.

Minnewaska Center for Manufacturing located in Glenwood, MN is offering free welding classes as part of a partnership with local area employers. Working together with the Louisiana Community and Technical College System, Praxair's Skills Pipeline Workforce Development Program, funded by Praxair's Global Giving Program, is a scholarship program that is being offered through Baton Rouge Community College and SOWELTA Technical Community College. US Department of Labor provides a grant that covers tuition for an entry level welding certificate program offered at the Milwaukee Area Technical College in Mequon. This free tuition program is available as part of a $14.9 million grant to the Wisconsin Technical College system. To be eligible for the program, you must be an unemployed adult. The classes are also offered at the college's West Allis and Oak Creek campuses.
